Reading the editor’s note of Pink magazine (May 2014), I could not help recall what happened to me about a month ago when I was about to cross over to Malta. It was about 2pm and queuing for about 30 minutes in the scorching heat was not a joke. When the boat from Malta berthed, cars and passengers had to wait to alight because another vessel was unloading containers and trucks which never seemed to come to an end.

Finally, cars started boarding to cross over to Malta. The person who had previously checked my ticket asked me to stop when it was my turn to proceed. All of a sudden, a grey car sped by from the adjacent lane to my left and boarded the boat. The ship was full and a signal was given for the ramp to rise.

I was flabbergasted and angry at what seemed to be (which, in fact, it was) a great injustice.

Unfortunately, I did not manage to recognise the registration number but I took the matter up with the Gozo ferry chap who told me: “Sorry, madam. Orders from above.”

Had it been an ambulance, I would have taken a deep breath and said a prayer for the sick person but I simply can’t tolerate such arrogant behaviour. That also meant another wait of about 30 minutes for the next boat to cross over from Malta.

I love to go to Gozo but sincerely hope that by the time I need to go there again, I would have forgotten this nasty incident as I hate it when someone feels that he is more equal than others.
