Valletta’s striking St John’s Co-Cathedral has been recognised as a top attraction by travel review website TripAdvisor.

The baroque building, which was commissioned by Grand Master Jean de la Cassière for the Knights Hospitallier in the 1570s, received the 2014 Certificate of Excellence.

To qualify for this internationally-acclaimed award, a site must maintain an overall rating of four or higher out of a possible five points, which is based on the quality of reviews and opinions earned on TripAdvisor.com over the past year.

The top 10 per cent of such sites receive the accolade.

As well as a place of worship, the cathedral is a popular venue for cultural events in the capital and is known for its artworks.

The St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation said this award signifies it has consistently earned outstanding feedback as an attraction of excellence from TripAdvisor travellers who visited the cathedral.

Certificate winners are located all over the world.
