The need for a complete reform of the migration policy at EU level and including countries of origin and transition was discussed and agreed upon during a meeting of the OSCE in Azerbaijan.

In a resolution, the members appealed to the organisation member states, especially those that were also members of the EU, to commit themselves to a policy of solidarity with refugees and to share responsibility in the sector.

The resolution acknowledged that neither the OSCE nor the European Union could ignore the humanitarian consequences being felt as a result of the crisis in the Mediterranean.

Malta was represented in the meeting by MPs Godfrey Farrugia and Carmelo Abela and permanent representative to the OSCE Keith Azzopardi.
