A young man riding a motorbike was in a collision with a car in front of our house the other morning. He assured the car driver that he was not hurt but we noticed a very deep cut on his arm, which started to bleed quite heavily.

My husband and I drove him to the GP in one of the chemist shops in Naxxar and, as he did not have any money on him, we offered to pay the charges for having the wound dressed.

It took from 15 to 20 minutes for the treatment. The doctor asked us whether we needed a receipt and, without thinking, we said it was not necessary.

The charge was €90 for the first aid treatment plus €20 for a tube of antibiotic cream. As we did not want to embarrass the young man by querying the charge we paid the medical bill.

Is this the usual rate for such treatment in Malta?
