After mesmerising passers-by with his flyboard performances around the island last year, Simon Desira is now organising night shows. Wearing a ‘Tron-like suit’ adorned with different coloured LED lights, he is performing at special events and private parties.

“With an LED suit, it’s much more spectacular than during the day,” Desira says.

During the day, he usually performs in the open sea, but for these shows, he is confined to swimming pools, which can impose limits.

“It depends on the pool size and depth, as this will limit the tricks,” he says.

Desira, in fact, prides himself of being the record holder of having used the Flyboard in the smallest pool ever. He was featured in Flyboard Magazine for his feat.

The audience, usually made up of partygoers, share the adrenaline rush that is experi enced by the performer.

“You feel this in the way they react to a show,” Desira continues. “After the show, they say that we are crazy and that we were the highlight of the event. Well, using a flyboard in a 1.2-metre-deep pool really is crazy!

“The crowd just loves it and so do we. Using the flyboard during the day is spectacular, at night it’s even more.”

• Those interested to try out the flyboard can do so even without any skill or knowledge of another sport. The flying is done 10 to 15 metres from the jet ski, making it one of the safest water sport activity around. Flyboard packages include 15- and 30-minute sessions for individuals in groups of up to five people or 25-minute sessions for groups of over six people. A second flyboard caters for larger groups. Instructions are given on land before the session starts and equipment, including wetsuits, life jackets and communication helmets, are all provided.
