Renault Sport have announced a series of changes in a bid to turn around their ailing season.

After 29 years with Renault, Jean-Michel Jalinier has decided to retire for personal reasons, relinquishing his roles as president and managing director of Renault Sport F1.

Jalinier has been replaced by Jerome Stoll, who will take on the new positions in addition to his current responsibilities as chief performance officer and group sales and marketing director.

Former Caterham team principal Cyril Abiteboul has returned to Renault to take up the newly-created position of managing director.

Caterham confirmed on Wednesday Abiteboul had departed Caterham in the wake of Tony Fernandes’ sale of the Leafield-based marque to a consortium of Middle Eastern and Swiss businessmen.

Abiteboul previously worked for Renault from 2001 to 2012, becoming development director of Renault F1 Team in 2007 and then executive director in 2010 prior to joining Caterham following Fernandes’ decision to stand down as team principal.

Whether the changes will be enough to appease Red Bull team principal Christian Horner remains to be seen.

At the recent Austrian Grand Prix, in which reigning four-times champion Sebastian Vettel was forced to retire for the third time this year, Horner described Renault’s performance as “unacceptable” and demanded change within the organisation.
