Air Malta goes paperless

Air Malta recently received authorisation from the Civil Aviation Directorate to operate a fully digital electronic flight bag (EFB), becoming one of the first paperless carriers in Europe.

Air Malta moved to using FliteDeck Pro on iPad from Jeppesen, a part of Boeing Digital Aviation, for access to digital flight information used on the ground and in the air.

FliteDeck Pro helps to reduce pilot workload, increase situational awareness in flight and lower operating costs through reduced fuel consumption, based on weight savings and easy access to operational information.

“We look forward to continued operational benefits and improved efficiency.

“This leap forward has been achieved through the expertise and belief in the product of a dedicated technical and operational team led by First Officer Mark Attard, our technical pilot,” Patrick Calleja, head of aircraft operations, Air Malta said.

Reduction in the APS rates

Following the European Central Bank’s recent cut in its main refinancing rate by 0.10 per cent, APS Bank is reducing its own Base Rate accordingly.

With effect from July 1, the bank’s base rate went down from 2.35 per cent to 2.25 per cent and this will benefit all its borrowers, both commercial and personal.

This base rate reduction together with competitive interest rates offered on its Biz Plus Products are expected to prove of particular support to the business sector.

For the time being APS Bank will be leaving all its deposit interest rates unchanged.

Middlesea launches road safety competition

Middlesea Insurance has launched the MotorMax Road Safety Competition to reward safe driving habits.

The competition is part of the launch of Motor Max Insurance, which enables the company to customise insurance premiums based on driving habits for young drivers aged between 18 and 30.

The product and competition also form part of Middlesea’s commitment to increase awareness of responsible road usage among the young generation.

A total of 33 participants have installed a telematics device on their car and lose points if they exceed speed limits or if they use the car excessively during the night.

A portion of the points awarded is also related to social media, in order to increase awareness of this product. The winner of the competition will win three years free motor insurance, with the second placed winning two years free motor insurance, while the second runner up will win one year free motor insurance.
