Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this morning declined to state whether former EU Commissioner John Dalli is still his consultant.

Soon after returning to Malta last year, after Labour’s return to power and a four month recovery period in Brussels after being diagnosed of suffering from “psychosocial exposure”, Mr Dalli was received by the Prime Minister at Castille and made consultant to the Prime Minister on reform at Mater Dei Hospital. He subsequently presented a report.

At the same time, newly appointed Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit declared that there is no evidence against Mr Dalli to be arraigned in court.
His predecessor, John Rizzo, had already stated that he was going to arraign John Dalli in court as soon as he returned to Malta. However, Mr Rizzo was removed by the government soon after the elections.

This morning, Dr Muscat also failed to confirm persistent media reports that the current police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit is set to be replaced.

“I don’t comment on media speculation” Dr Muscat said.
