The Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club, in conjunction with the Malta Tennis Federation, will be hosting the VLTC Kettle Chips European Tournament at their premises between July 12 and 19.

The tournament, sponsored by Red October Company, is being held for the seventh year running and is part of the Under 14 Tour of Tennis Europe.

Details of the tournament were announced recently by VLTC president Paul Micallef.

He said the competition has already attracted considerable interest among junior players from across Europe and beyond.

In fact, over 150 boys and girls have already applied to take part, hailing from Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Greece, Turkey, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Israel, Russia and Ukraine.

Other players from the United States and Australia have also given notice to attend.

Malta will be represented by Miguel Galea, Liam Delicata, Shaun Borg, Francesca Curmi, Helene Pellicano and Martina Demanuele.

Meanwhile, the VLTC held an Orange Tennis competition, for children between the ages of eight and 10 years, under the supervision of long-serving club coach John Cassar.

At the end of the event, Konrad Ferris, representing Red October, distributed mementoes.

The tournament organisers thanked Red October for their sponsorship, and San Michel Table Water for their support.
