While the World Cup is taking place, citizens of Egypt, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, North Korea and Ukraine are battling for survival and no one seems to care about their ordeal.

In Iraq, the government is asking for more help from the Obama administration to halt the atrocities being perpetrated by Islamists as they march towards Baghdad.

The Iraqi leadership is divided. Would military help be enough to ward off these Islamist militants who are being led by a breakaway group of Al- Qaeda, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a leading force in the Syrian civil war?

The fall of Mosul shocked both Iraq and Iran.

Washington knew all along that Iraqi militant groups were gaining ground over the last couple of months but did not seem to be concerned. The only response from the Obama administration has been to pour more military aid into Iraq. However, this influx of American weaponry is only adding fuel to the fire which is consuming these countries.

In the meantime and for the time being, nothing else around the globe matters... but the World Cup in Brazil.
