British High Commissioner Rob Luke and his wife Louise (right) hosted the annual reception marking the Queen’s official birthday at their residence in San Pawl tat-Tarġa.

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca in a speech praised the strong ties between Malta and the UK.

The High Commissioner welcomed the vibrancy of the bilateral relationship and offered the UK’s best wishes to the Maltese government and people in this year of important anniversaries.

The High Commissioner also congratulated Prime Minister Joseph Muscat on Malta’s offer to host the next Commonwealth Summit in November 2015 and looked forward to working with Malta on this major event.

Budding mezzo soprano Marvic Monreal sang the two countries’ national anthems and Charles Giacomotto played the bagpipes to arriving guests. Typical British food and drinks were served, including fish and chips, miniature roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and Pimms.
