So singer Robin Thicke is in the news again. Not for his music, of course, but for rubbing up people the wrong way, as usual.

The video for Get Her Back, the single from his new album Paula, has had feminists up in arms because, as we all know, Thicke isn’t exactly the master of tact.

When he first hit the news with the video for Blurred Lines, I found it almost amusing. The video itself could be construed as offensive, and yes the ‘blurred lines’ the singer spoke of, with his coy “you know you want it” did blur the lines of what is acceptable and what is tantamount to legitimising rape.

It has yet to dawn on Mr Thicke, it would appear, that the ‘no means no’ axiom is a serious one.

However, when all is said and done, there was also no doubt that the video itself was not intended to deliver this message. Cut a long story short, the singer was just being a lad, and I doubt anyone seriously thought that the song was actually encouraging men to cross the line of doubtful consent.

After all, the models starring in the video all looked like they were having a very good time indeed. Questionable taste? Maybe. Encouraging rape? Unlikely.

Fast forward to his latest video and it seems like Thicke, in the absence of actual good music, needs to resort to gimmicks for some attention.

Only, this time round the topic is a tad more serious. The track is called Get Her Back, and basically finds Thicke in broken heart mode, attempting to win back a lost love.

The video is littered with super creepy texts he had actually sent to his ex-wife

Only problem is, that the lost love is real. Her name is Paula Patton and she was actually married to the man whose status of moron is fast becoming legendary. Yep, Paula, like the album. Now, what a coincidence. But wait, there’s more.

The video is littered with super creepy texts he had actually sent to his ex-wife. All women will be familiar with the whiny-mode that some guys default to when they’re dumped. “Come back”, “let’s try once again”, “I still love you” and so on and so boringly forth.

Sometimes, these texts cross the line from the boring to the creepy. They become more frequent, more intense and don’t let up even after some months have gone by.

This is exactly what Thicke has done – only, he took it to the next level and instead of simply bothering Paula with a barrage of text messages, he replicated them all on his video. Just so that we can all be a part of it, you know.

So far, so sad. Creepy, but hardly the stuff that true psychos dream up. Unlike, say, using a model who looks uncannily like the ex-wife you’re publicly stalking to star in the video.

Or even having said model bloodied up and fake drowned, after she has had the dubious pleasure of pawing him all over. Which is exactly what Thicke proceeded to do.

Paula, lock your doors or leave the country. After all, as your charming ex put it in his video: “This is just the beginning.”
