I would like to thank Anthony Saliba for his letter ‘Airport emergencies’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, June 22).

Safety and security play a very important role in the operations of our airport and we are committed to provide a safe and secure environment to all those visiting it.

While for operational reasons we cannot divulge details of the process, the machinery did, in fact, operate in a correct manner, and the action taken on the day was carried out following a risk assessment.

With regard to the public address system, this suggestion has, in fact, already been identified and we are currently working on its implementation.

Naturally, we continuously revise our policies and procedures to ensure that processes are carried out with minimum inconvenience to all involved, as well as to find ways on how to improve such processes should similar situations occur in the future.
