Currently celebrating its 26th anniversary, the Central Academy of Ballet will be presenting the ballet A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
This is the academy’s ninth full-length ballet, with past productions including The Nutcracker, Don Quixote and My Fair Lady.
The ballet is mainly inspired by Frederick Ashton’s adaptation The Dream, of Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The production is set to music by Felix Mendelssohn, which was composed for Shakespeare’s play.
The directors of the Central Academy of Ballet, Monique Pellegrini Petit and Mireille Coleiro, with the assistance of Svetlana Silina, have been putting their utmost effort into all the preparations for the ballet and have enlisted the help of academy-award winner Peter Howitt to lend a hand with stage and costume design.
The cast of the ballet includes students of the Central Academy, along with other local artists such as Nicola Buhagiar, Keith Micallef, Warren Bonello, Gino Camilleri, Marisha Bonnici, Tamara Micallef, Joseph Schembri, Robert Scicluna, Alexander Spiteri and Stuart Vella.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is being held on July 7 at 9pm at the Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta. Tickets are available from St James Cavalier by calling 2122 3200 or online.
