After 13 straight years in the Premier League, next season Fulham will play in the Championship after suffering relegation.

Hull City, on their part, will continue with their stay in the top flight after they had earned promotion in 2013. In the new season, the Tigers will make their bow on the continent via the Europa League as losing FA Cup finalists.

Fulham changed their man at the helm twice in their attempt to keep afloat in 2013-14.

In December they sacked Martin Jol for Rene Meulensteen, who lasted for less than three months, making way for Felix Magath.

Late victories over Aston Villa and Norwich gave the Cottagers a glimmer of hope but they failed to find the Houdini touch to avoid the drop from the top flight.

The Fulham fans had hoped the club could buy the players to see them through their troubles in January. But the deals done proved unfruitful, starting with striker Kostas Mitroglou – a club record signing of £11m from Olympiakos.

Manager Steve Bruce gave Hull a tremendous boost as he steered the side out of the woods before they made it to Wembley in the FA Cup final.

Bruce has been at the KC Stadium since June 2012. He took over at Hull after the sacking of Nick Barmby, joining his seventh club in his managerial career.

Ex-Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone left no stone un-turned to comply with Bruce’s in-structions and tactics. He was picked as the player of the year.

On their way to the showdown with Arsenal in the cup final, Hull saw off Cardiff City and Sunderland. But the dramatic episode came when they failed to defend a 2-0 advantage against Arsenal and lost 2-3 in extra-time.

In the League Cup, Hull City lost to Tottenham on penalties in the fourth round at White Hart Lane.

In this same tournament, Fulham shocked dark horses Everton 2-1 at home in the third round but then lost away at Leicester by the odd goal in seven.

In the FA Cup, Fulham bowed out to Championship side Shef-field United in a fourth round replay 0-1 at Craven Cottage.
