It was a “magical” night for Sarah Michelle Attard after she got lucky for the third time running by managing to snag a kiss from Spanish heart-throb Enrique Iglesias backstage.

The 24-year-old became the envy of many after the superstar had pulled her on to the coveted Isle of MTV stage and planted a smacker during his previous performances in 2007 and in 2008.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Iglesias insisted it was coincidental, describing her as a “really sweet” girl, adding that he hoped she would be present.

While Ms Attard’s selection in 2008 was a complete surprise, she had been strategically plotting and had brought along enlarged photographs of her on stage with Iglesias the previous year.

Speaking to Times of Malta, Ms Attard said that, this year, Iglesias dedicated his romantic song Hero to Malta rather than exclusively to her.

“I had been trying to meet him but it proved impossible. But after the performance, I managed to meet him and take a picture with him. I was thrilled he recognised me. It was great to see him again after six years.”

Did he change much since she last saw him?

“Well, he still looks good, I can tell you that,” she smiled.

On Wednesday, some 50,000 people packed the Floriana Granaries, which once again pulsated to the rhythms of some of the most popular pop tracks of the day.

After Maltese band Funk Initiative, Canadian songstress Kiesza stormed the stage with an energetic performance of number one hit Hideaway while showcasing her vocal skills in a piano version of Haddaway’s What Is Love.

Next up was British rapper Dizzee Rascal who got the crowd going with hits like Dance With Me, Holiday and Bonkers.

Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger followed that with her new single Your Love, followed by some of the band’s biggest numbers including Jai Ho, Buttons and Don’t Cha.

Iglesias opened his set with club hits Tonight I’m Loving You and I’m Waiting For Tonight, before sending pulses racing with a raunchy duet with Scherzinger on Heartbeat.

Dutch DJ Hardwell closed off the concert with some catchy club anthems.
