Through this newspaper, I would like to thank a number of total strangers who through their kindness and consideration helped us so much last week.

My wife and I are in our 70s. Walking down the very steep slope of Triq II-Lanċa to catch the Sliema ferry, my wife had a very nasty fall on the slippery pavement. Already suffering from a partial ligament tear, her knee quickly turned black and swelled up like a balloon. She also suffered multiple cuts and grazes to her ankle. As I tried to lift her back on her feet, out of nowhere raced a man with a Luzzu Cruises shirt on.

Not only did he help me but he raced down to the restaurant nearby and came back with a big ice pack.

At the same time, a lady (who said she worked in the nearby museum), was getting into a red car.

She immediately came across, took one look at my wife and insisted she take us to the Floriana clinic to get everything checked out. On the way there she said she was off to pick up her daughter for lunch – I hope she made it on time!

The staff at Floriana were terrific. We waited just a few minutes before my wife was fully examined and then we were advised to go to Mosta clinic to get everything X-rayed.

She was bandaged up and reception ordered us a taxi. At Mosta they were waiting for us – straight into the X-Ray room. Then we saw the duty doctor. Thank goodness it was severe bruising but no fractures.

With the UK’s reciprocal arrangement with Malta, our only costs were for taxis but that was totally insignificant against the wonderful help and care that we received.

I am sorry I do not know anyone’s names – but my very sincere thanks to them all.
