The article entitled ‘Pensioner bank account frozen after row over apartment charge’ (June 21) makes very interesting reading. I was always of the opinion that to freeze someone’s bank account, the charge has to be rather serious. A quibble between residents of a block of apartments and an administrator does not call for such drastic action.
The company administrator was demanding €2,000 from a pensioner knowing this person had in the past complained about maintenance work not being done. To rub salt into the wound the company found it convenient to file a garnishee order while the pensioner was away in Spain. I am sure readers would be very interested to know about the criteria necessary to freeze one’s bank account. Should judicial letters be sent first, before crippling someone with a drastic garnishee order?
