Song of Songs New Choral Singers 20th Anniversary Concert, in aid of Hospice Malta, took place on June 11, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter and the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation.

Malta is blessed by many choirs, most of whom are extremely good. The New Choral Singers certainly rank very highly indeed. In fact, the choir is now renowned as one of the foremost polyphonic vocal ensembles locally, particularly in view of the fact that it frequently lends itself to the animation of various events including fund raising activities for philanthropic organisations. The popularity of such concerts was yet again confirmed by the large numbers who attended.

This concert was held in Malta’s most stunning venue. Under the baton of conductor Robert Calleja, who needs very little introduction, the choir, orchestra, organ and singers gave an unforgettable performance. The programme was very varied with many well known pieces such as Love’s Promise, Rhapsody, Many Waters, The Lord is my Shepherd and many more.

Judging by the applause which followed every item, those present enjoyed this feast of choral singing tremendously. A big well done and thank you must go to all those responsible to putting together such an enjoyable and memorable concert.

All the hard work was hopefully rewarded through the retiring collection which was held in aid of Hospice Malta, which need a large amount of funding for the free service they provide all over the Maltese islands.
