Paul A Attard, a veteran broadcaster and former permanent secretary at the Ministry of Education, has passed away aged 72.

Mr Attard, from Birkirkara, died from a fall in Valletta, where he was attending a reception.

Mr Attard presented several religious programmes on television. He served on the Board of Governors of Mcast and was chairman of the Public Service Commission. 

More recently, he was president of the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation.

In a statement, the PN saluted Mr Attard, praising him in particular for his role in various reforms of the education sector, such as the setting up of Mcast. It also thanked him for his service to the party, noting that as recently as  last week he participated in a meeting on the need for a languages policy for the country.
