Sirens made it three wins from three matches after beating Exiles.Sirens made it three wins from three matches after beating Exiles.

A promising display by a lively Sirens side marked by efficient blocking at the back, strong swimming and several spectacular executions, provided the fuel which helped the team’s engine to run smoothly, yesterday.

The basis was laid in the first session and driven home in the third, with Exiles faltering time and again especially on man-up sets.

Apart from the striking acumen of Csaba Kiss and centre Zach Mizzi, scorers of four and three goals respectively, David Cutajar, Italian Christian Presciutti and the tenacious Gabriel Pace did a lot of covering and prompting when the northerners were in possession.

There was never any doubt about the verdict. Sirens stretched their advantage to eight goals with three minutes left in the last session, after which Geregelj Katonas scored three times to make it a less gaping defeat for Exiles.

The previous match turned out to be yet another cracker, with a nail-biting ending after Marsaxlokk had come close to neutralising Otters’ lead which was mostly a three-goal cushion.

Towards the end of the third session that advantage was extended to 11-7 before the southerners pulled one goal back.

Then, Otto Frick came into the picture with three quick goals to level matters.

Excitement kept brewing until the contest was resolved in favour of Paul Dimech’s Otters.

Edward Andrei and Ivan Vuksanovic, with four goals each, followed by John Paris, who scored a hat-trick, proved invaluable in their team’s 14-13 success.
