VIPs and prominent personalities turned out in force last Wednesday in the Gloxinia Room of the Grockle Palace Hotel. They were there to help celebrate the Malta launch of the new and very latest Lavernier men’s intimate fragrance: Whyfront. This new, exclusive fragrance is imported by D Soldanis-Prezziozi Ltd, of San Ġwann.

Among those attending – and pictured above – were: Enzo Soldanis-Prezziozi, president and managing director of D Soldanis Prezziozi Ltd, of San Ġwann, his wife – (Oh it’s not his wife... who says? Oh OK) his companion Tracy Benevenuto Grech, (His wife is apparently the fat slapper, with the facial hair and the unfortunate neckline, tagged on the end of the group and partly obscured), Carlos and Rob of Carlos and Rob Fashions (flanking a couple of nameless bimbos and trying – but failing miserably – to look butch), actress and TV personality Miriam Squatt Sant, actress and TV personality Karmen Debono Thrash and actress and TV personality Sharon-Lourdes Agius. Plus the usual mish-mash of ad agency hangers-on and freeloaders.

After consuming a restricted number of flutes of cheap sparkling wine, each guest was presented with a goody bag containing a miniature-sized dispenser of the new and very latest Lavernier men’s intimate fragrance: Whyfront. Incidentally, Whyfront is imported by D Soldanis-Prezziozi Ltd, of San Ġwann.

Stars come out for local blockbuster premiere

The stars came out in force last Sunday for the premiere of the first-ever locally-produced blockbuster slasher-disaster movie: Paceville.

In the photo above, the production team plus the cast and crew – which numbered well into double figures – can be seen posing outside the Ritzy multiplex, San Ġwann. Unfortunately, the star of the movie, the Italian megastar Ignacio Barfinelli, was unable to attend, as he chose to invoke the embarrassment clause in his contract.

This technically demanding epic required the burning to the ground of a block of flats in Gżira, which fortunately nobody noticed. It also required the import of seven container-loads of artificial blood and lots of spectacular special effects... costing nearly €500...

A spokesperson for the production opined that: “Although too late for Cannes this year, they augured that Paceville would garner enough support to get onto the shortlist for next year’s Oscars. (Dream on... Ed)

Band celebrates silver jubilee with spectacular opera

St Graziella Band of San Ġwann recently celebrated 25 years of its existence with a spectacular production of Giuseppi Verdi’s epic opera, Aida. The opera was performed at St Graziella Oratory, San Ġwann, on Saturday and Sunday of last week.

The band was under the direction of Mro Frankie Loporto Clark. Soloists included internationally acclaimed soprano Gracie Spampinato Gatt in the title role and għana superstar Twanny is-Suldat – Terrible as Radames.

While this was probably the most breathtaking opera production ever staged in Malta, import restrictions meant it lacked real elephants. But the larger members of the Dierdre Solano dance school saved the day by doubling their roles as the necessary pachyderms.

For your diary

• A card party, in aid of the ‘mixxins’, will be held in the back room of the St Graziella church complex next Thursday. And in order to forestall any unseemly scenes, such as those experienced at the last card party here, Mrs Evelyn Borg Biscow and Miss Carmelina Dayson Deguara will not be admitted onto the premises... under any circumstances.

• There will be a mobility scooter grand prix next Sunday. Chocks away at 9am on the track at St Ivan the Infirm retirement home, San Ġwann. All are welcome, but the management warn that they cannot be responsible for accidents caused by errant scooters.
