For the ninth consecutive year, Tennis Club Kordin (TCK) in collaboration with The Malta Tennis Federation will be hosting this year’s U16 European Tennis Tournament which forms part of the Tennis Europe’s Under 16 Tour calendar.
Some 160 players from all over Europe will be taking part in the tournament this year -103 boys and 52 girls. The players hail from 30 countries including Australia, USA, Norway, Russia, Austria, Great Britain, Italy and Germany.
This year’s tournament has attracted an exceptionally high level of talented players with two boys currently ranked in Europe’s top 50 – Vladyslav Lobak from Ukraine (currently ranked 30) and Eleftherios Nevos from Cyprus (37) as well as Maria Stylianou from Cyprus (currently ranked 61 in Europe) in the girls section.
Malta will be represented by some of the island’s best youngsters. In the boys category the Maltese team will be made up of Miguel Galea (ranked 1440), Luke Wilkinson and Shaun Borg. The girls’ team will be composed of Katrina Sammut (ranked 829) and Alexia Cassar.
The tournament will commence with the qualifying stage on Saturday July 6 and Sunday 7 . Signing in for this draw will take place on Friday July 4. Signing in for the main draw will be held on Sunday July 6 with the Main Draw matches starting on Monday , July 7and ending with the final on Saturday July 12.
On Monday 7th July 2014 players are to sign in for the doubles draw, with the doubles matches starting on Tuesday 8th July 2014.
