A brand new stand-up comedy club is about to crash-land in the heart of Valletta promising to bring with it boldness, boisterousness and all-round berserk bedlam – The Chicken Coop.

Inspired by the plethora of clubs on the London circuit, The Chicken Coop will be a monthly event held at Djangos in Republic Street, Valletta, and will feature the top comedians on the island, as well as a comedy virgin at every event.

Many local comedians are fearless, joking about everything and anything

“Local stand-up comedy has only been in existence for a year-and-a-half but a number of comedians have already started to develop their own particular style and a bit of a following,” explains Steve Hili, a local comedian and Chicken Coop organiser.

“Many local comedians are fearless, joking about everything and anything. We love ruffling feathers – that is one of the reasons we are calling this club The Chicken Coop – and the energy surrounding the scene is incredible. And now, thanks to some help from Farsons Beverage Imports and Djangos, we want to take this to another level,” Hili adds.

Hili himself has performed on the London circuit quite successfully and hopes that The Chicken Coop can help local comedians take the same step.

And that is not all.

Every month will bring a complete newbie – a comedy virgin can win a chance to do a set.

“We want the stand-up community in Malta to grow and flourish. We want more and more people to feel the rush of getting up in front of an audience and making them laugh. Once you get bitten by the stand-up bug you are never the same again. It is unbelievable,” continues Hili.

To win a chance of being on stage for a Chicken Coop show, send a video of yourself delivering your best ‘chicken’ joke to jameson@farsons.com.

The joke deemed to be the best by The Chicken Coop team wins the chance to get on stage.

More information will be on Jameson Whiskey Malta Facebook page. You can also find the Chicken Coop page on Facebook.

The first Chicken Coop event, being held on Saturday, will feature Hili himself as well as other crowd favourites Philip Leone Ganado, Joseph Zammit and Malcolm Alden on MCing duties.

Entrance will be free.
