Italian marksman Alessandro Chianese won the fifth edition of the Malta International Double Trap Grand Prix which was hosted by the Malta Shooting Sport Federation at its ranges in Bidnija, yesterday.

In all, there were 15 competitors vying for the prestigious honour.

Ten of them were representing the Italian shooting federation and the others Maltese including William Chetcuti, a former winner of the competition but who had to settle for third place this time round behind Italian runner-up Ferdinando Rossi.

The Italian marksmen dominated the shoot.

In fact, five of them made it to the finals with Chetcuti the only local competitor still in contention in the decisive stage of the Grand Prix.

Francesco D’Aniello had the top score in the qualifying round with 139 clays. He was followed by Chianese, 135, and Chetcuti, 134.

D’Aniello, however, did not keep the momentum going and failed to book one of the slots in the medal play-offs.

He was classified sixth behind compatriots Emanuele Bernasconi, last year’s Grand Prix winner, and Ignazio Tronca.

Andrea Vescovi won the Category B shoot ahead of Gianluca Chetcuti and Stefano Mazzetta.
