Sixty-six secondary school students spent a week observing different careers in various establishments in the tourism sector during this scholastic year.

Over 20 establishments, including hotels and heritage sites, hosted the students who experienced working in areas such as the front office and food and beverage departments.

Operators in the tourism industry see this initiative as important to attract young people to the sector’s career opportunities, while educators agree that such experiences often greatly facilitate students’ career decision-making.

The students’ feedback was also positive, with a number of them even remaining in touch with the establishments and may be recruited as summer workers once they reach the age of 16.

The job exposure programme has been organised the Malta Tourism Authority’s Quality and Industry HR Development Unit in coordination with the Directorate for Educational Services for the past five years.
