This weekend, two athletes from the Malta Amateur Athletics Association (MAAA) will take part in the first Under-23 Mediterranean Championships in Aubagne, south of France.

The championships are being organised by the recently set-up Mediterranean Union, an organisation that has 25 member federations.

The MAAA will be represented by two sprinters, Steve Camilleri (Pembroke) and Annalise Vassallo (Żurrieq Wolves).

Camilleri, who was recently crowned national champion in the 100m in a personal best of 10.80, will run the 100m and 200m.

Vassallo, who placed fourth in the 100m at the National Championships and was the youngest member of the 4x100m team that attained the MQS for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, will be taking part in the 100m.

The two athletes will be accompanied by Joseph Farrugia who is one of the leading technical officials of the MAAA.
