The Italian embassy in Malta celebrated Italy’s National Day on June 2. The event was attended by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, members of the government and the Opposition as well as academics, entrepreneurs and diplomats.

In his speech, Ambassador Giovanni Umberto De Vito highlighted the strong ties between Italy and Malta, as well as the intense and fruitful bilateral collaboration, particularly in the areas of migration, energy and health.

This year, Italy’s National Day was dedicated to the promotion of the Milan Expo 2015 on nutrition and the sustainable use of resources, being held in Italy until October. Besides inviting the commissioner appointed to co-ordinate Malta’s participation at the expo, the embassy also invited local representatives of the expo’s major sponsoring brands.

Thanks to the support of Italian companies, the event presented the agricultural excellence, food specialities and territorial variety of Italy through the tasting of PDO products such as Parmigiano Reggiano, Asiago, Prosciutto di Parma and Mozzarella di bufala campana.

Among those attending were Gen. Vincenzo Campolini, former Chief of Defence and vice president of the Institute of International Affairs, and Dr Roberto Cicutto, CEO of the Istituto Luce-Cinecittà.
