Twenty-nine girls and boys from ArtsExcel and St Michael School, Tal-Balal, San Ġwann, placed first in a dance competition of the GEF World Festival of Creativity in Schools in San Remo, Italy. Other participants in the competition came from Italy, France, Poland, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

The Maltese contingent took part in category C of the competition with a neo-classical Spanish dance entitled Inside. Marisha Bonnici provided artistic direction, accompanied by ArtsExcel director Annemarie Carabot.

To prepare for the competition they took part in workshops with senior Cecchetti and Spanish examiner Gillian Hurst and international choreographer Tracy Baxter.
