The Nationalist Party did not agree in principle with grouping local council elections with those of the European Parliament, the PN said.

With reference to the story published on Wednesday titled ‘PN may support joint elections, but not in 2019’, the PN yesterday clarified remarks made by its spokesman.

The PN said regular elections were a valuable exercise in participatory democracy.

The party said it was difficult to understand how the Prime Minister was promoting local elections as an opportunity for 16-year-olds to vote while simultaneously postponing elections for another five years.

The PN said it expected the government to strengthen democracy and not seek ways to undermine it under the pretext of cost-saving or electoral fatigue.
