The women’s 2014 Huawei Championship Cup, played recently, saw a superb first day performance from reigning champion Laine Tutane.

She posted a score of 75 taking her into Day Two with a massive 10-shot lead over veteran Maureen Borg, the 17-time champion.

Also still in the mix in joint third place were Felicity Dix and 15 year-old Mia Allsopp, just two shots further back.

Tutane’s second round of 87 was enough for her to register a comfortable win by a clear eights shots from Borg who posted consistently strong rounds of 85 on both days.

Those competing in the concurrent Huawei Moya Hann competition found themselves in a tighter situation.

Beverley Hall and Mandy Lucasse (2013 winner) led the field on 93 after Day One, two shots ahead of Jenny Scicluna and Annette Sowden.

The leaders held on to their positions with Hall coming in first with 189 and Lucasse runner-up with 193.
