A monument by Maltese artist Joseph Barbara was unveiled at Paul Boffa public gardens in Paola as part of HSBC’s Catch the Drop campaign to promote water conservation. The monument is made out of recycled plastic water bottles, some of which were collected by the students themselves.

Energy and Health Minister Konrad Mizzi, HSBC Malta CEO Mark Watkinson and Paola mayor Roderick Spiteri attended the event.

The Minister encouraged the students to keep up their participation in the campaign, saying the monument symbolised the increasing awareness of water sustainability.

“Water is our most precious resource. The average Maltese uses 135 litres of water per day, about a quarter of which is flushed down the drains,” Watkinson said.

The nationwide three-year initiative by HSBC Malta is incorporating innovative and proactive approaches to raise awareness about water conservation and stimulate a positive change towards sustainable fresh water use in Malta and Gozo.
