An English language course for parents and grandparents of pupils at St Margaret College, Żabbar Primary A was recently held by the English-Speaking Union. The tailor-made English sessions focused mainly on conversation and essential grammar rules.
Headmaster Alfred Debattista said the sessions were needed so that participants could better understand and talk in English to their children and grandchildren, who were speaking the language more often thanks to the ESU’s Arm of Support programme which introduces the English language to the school’s pupils.
ESU Malta director of education Yvette Micallef, who led the course, said most of the participants already had a basic knowledge of English, but felt awkward when speaking the language as they had little scope to practise it.
The course helped improved the participants’ ability to speak the language confidently and to hold better conversations in English.
