A joint inter-disciplinary research centre to be called the Institute of Human Physiology and Cognition is to be set up at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology.

This follows the recent signing of an agreement between the college and Maltese neuroscience and medical technologies company AAT Research.

The company’s first award-winning product, called Mente, is a neurofeedback device for home use in the management of autism in children that has started to be marketed internationally this year. The company also conducts neuroscience research projects for international clients.

The collaboration will provide Mcast students access to the company’s labs and hands-on experience of applied technologies in the commercial sector. The company will also offer internships to students following engineering, software, business and administration courses.

The agreement was signed by Mcast board of governors president Silvio De Bono and AAT Research founder and managing director Adrian Attard Trevisan in the presence of Education Minister Evarist Bartolo.
