Lilian M. Azzopardi was elected president of the European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy during the 20th EAFP annual conference being held in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Prof. Azzopardi is the head of the university's Department of Pharmacy and has been actively leading developments in pharmacy education.
During the conference, she presented a plenary talk on innovations in pharmacy education and spoke about the newly launched post-graduate professional doctorate in pharmacy at the University of Malta, the PharmD programme.
This programme which is a level eight degree is being offered in collaboration with the University of Illinois.
The course will commence in October and consists of a patient-centred curriculum developing pharmacy leaders with skills to be able to manage medicine use policies, supply chain management, pharmacoeconomic issues, medication use optimisation including therapeutic drug monitoring and patient care, pharmacovigilance and innovative drug therapy evaluation.
It is targeted at pharmacists who would like to develop careers in hospitals, primary care or community pharmacy, pharmacy administration and pharmaceutical regulatory affairs processes.
