The winner of a daredevil race chasing 8lbs of Double Gloucester down a steep hill at high speed does not even like cheese.

Teenager Josh Shepherd, right, ran down Cooper’s Hill in Gloucestershire like a rocket to win the world-famous event.

“My tactic was to stay on my feet and go as fast as I can and roll with the flow.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do with the cheese. I don’t really like cheese unless it’s melted, cheese on toast maybe,” he said.

“I'm doing it as it's fun. I've done it and won and I'm really proud of myself.”

Rebel cheese rollers staged an unofficial event after health and safety fears caused the official contest to be cancelled in 2010.

Australian senator’s bomb shock

An Australian senator startled his colleagues during a committee hearing by pulling a fake pipe bomb out of shopping bag.

Senator Bill Heffernan, who represents the ruling Liberal Party, was trying to make a point about lax security at the Parliament.

The 71-year-old wheat farmer produced what appeared to be a pipe bomb and several sticks of dynamite taped together while the Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee was questioning the Australian Federal Police Commissioner Tony Negus.

Naked violin virtuoso is arrested

A naked man playing violin in front of a Portland courthouse refused to walk to a patrol car and had to be carried by police.

Police say they are not sure of the man’s identity. He told them his name is Matthew T. Mglej and that he is 25. The man was jailed under the Portland city code forbidding indecent exposure.

Police say they warned the man numerous times about his “lack of attire,” but he refused to dress himself or leave public view.

Samba sadness for the World Cup

The official World Cup song is definitely striking a chord – the wrong one with many in host country Brazil.

Since the recent release of Fifa’s We Are One (Ole Ola), hordes of fans in Brazil have been slamming the official 2014 World Cup theme. Many expressed their frustration and pleaded for the return of the widely loved song that Colombian artist Shakira performed for the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

Although Brazilian Claudia Leitte is also featured in the official theme, critics say they don’t understand why Cuban-American rapper Pitbull and Bronx-born Puerto Rican singer Jennifer Lopez were chosen for the song.

They also complain that the song is mostly in English and Spanish, leaving only a few seconds at the end for Leitte to sing in her native Portuguese.

Holy cow makes excellent coffee

Lifelong coffee lover Dom Dwight opted for milk from a herd of cows near Watford after travelling 13,000 miles in search of ingredients for the perfect cup.

He chose top quality Kenyan beans which were roasted on a French mountain top and infused with pure Arctic water for his quest on behalf of Taylors of Harrogate.

But the milk came from closer to home, from Shanti, one of a herd of 46 holy cows said to be the happiest in Britain, who are cared for by Hare Krishnas on a farm near the M1 bequeathed to them by Beatles legend George Harrison.
