Addio sogni di Gloria…

Mario Nani is no more. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to accept the fact but it is true after all and he is finally at peace, resting with his mother and father, whom he so dearly loved and respected.

Everyone who knew him will testify to the fact that he was always helping people in whatever way imaginable, be it with advice on music, a problem with the car or any other odd job around the house.

Mario had been working for a good number of years on a book dealing with the Nani family’s exploits over the centuries and it was really his pride and joy. The book is not yet finished but it is hoped that over the next few months, the final touches will be put to it so that it will be his final and lasting legacy for the whole nation.

For those who go back a little in years, Mario Nani was one of the pillars of the business community. The firm Nani dates back to 1842 and for over 150 years it was a fixture of the piano and music trade. All those who worked with Mario would testify to his good nature and kindness, with several still visiting him many years after he retired.

Mario was also a fixture in Balluta, where he resided for the past 30 years at 21, Main Street. Many a time, I would pass by and have a chat with him on the book’s progress or talk about other issues – he always had a word of advice and that will also be sorely missed.

All those who had the pleasure of knowing Mario will remember him for what he was; a kind, affable and generous man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace dear friend.
