Name: McLaren Special Operations (MSO) 650S Coupé Concept
Debut: 2014 Beijing Motor Show
Appearance: Helpfully painted black and shot against a black rendered background, the MSO 650S is something of a dark character, if you’ll forgive the pun. It shares much of the looks of the standard 650S Coupé, but with stealth-style bodywork and carbon fibre add-ons. Orange detailing, making use of the signature colour of McLaren Automotive, adds a fiery splash of energy to the interior and lets you know, just in case the black-on-black was a bit too stealthy for your taste, that the Coupé Concept means business.
Prediction: McLaren chose China as this model’s first port of call to show the world’s future biggest car market how desirable its cars are, and the level of tempting customisation that can be applied to them. There’s nothing really groundbreaking here in terms of technology or propulsion, but the point to the Chinese public is that this concept is new, exciting and a match in terms of desirability for any of the Italian marques.
