During his visit to the Zazu Football School (ZFS) at the San Ġwann FC ground, Tottenham assistant manager Chris Ramsey was accompanied by David Magrone.

Magrone, a qualified coach from Sydney, is the head opposition scout at White Hart Lane but the purpose of his visit here was to monitor some young prospects during the UEFA Under-17 Championship just ended.

“I do a tactical analysis on the opposition,” Magrone said.

“We try and exploit their weaknesses and stop their strengths. We pass the information to the coaching staff and during the week, they prepare according to the information I provide.

“On top of that, we also scout players, so I’m the eyes of the manager for future signings and that’s where the travelling comes in.

“I’m here for the UEFA Under-17 Championship and watching some prospective talents.”

Magrone revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have sealed a deal to sign an exciting Belgian teenager with reports suggesting that Spurs had been tracking Axel Frix, a young left-back on the books of OH Leuven.

“We’ve signed a 16-year-old from Belgium who I have monitored for the last 12 months or so,” Magrone said.

“We’ve just completed the deal. He’s got lots of ability. He will potentially play for our first team in a few years’ time.”

On his checklist at the U-17 championship, which was won by England after they beat The Netherlands in a penalty shoot-out in the final, Magrone had two players in the Portugal team but he also tipped Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Joshua Onomah to make the grade.

“There’s definitely some good talent in the tournament,” he said.

“In particular, there’s one or two from Portugal who we like. But, you’ve got to keep your cards close to your chest because there’s plenty others monitoring players including our Josh Onomah. He’s got a great future ahead of him.”
