A 35-year-old woman from Bahar ic-Caghaq is pleading not guilty to the attempted murder of her boyfriend when she allegedly ran him over with her car and broke his leg.
Inspector Josric Mifsud told the court that the incident followed an argument between the accused, Anita Azzopardi, and her boyfriend Alfred Mamo. She claimed that Mr Mamo was drunk and threw stones at her Honda Civic.
Ms Azzopardi’s lawyer Giannella de Marco told the court that following the incident her client drove the victim to hospital herself. She said her client had a job and three children, aged seven, eight and 12. She also had a clean police record and had only retaliated after she was attacked.
Inspector Mifsud, however, said the police had reports from her husband Kevin Azzopardi that she would stay out late at night, did not look after the children and had tried to run him over.
They also had a report from Mr Mamo that she had pushed his motorcycle to the ground.
Magistrate Ian Farrugia granted Ms Azzopardi bail against a deposit of €2,000 and a personal guarantee of €10,000.
