Four-legged friends no longer need to be left at home when their owners treat themselves to a break as a Maltese hotel has introduced a pet-friendly programme.

Palace Pups at the Corinthia Palace Hotel and Spa in Attard allows dogs, cats and other animals to check in for an overnight stay or a longer visit.

“This sort of programme works brilliantly overseas at some of the best hotels in the world,” says general manager David Woodward.

“So we wanted to offer the same facilities to local pet owners, as well as those wanting to visit Malta with their pets.”

Facilities include free bowls, a bed, treats and toys; a room service menu offering fresh pet food; massages, grooming and walking options; a dedicated garden space for canines to run free and a dog sitting service.

“Of course, we have also kept our non pet-owning guests in mind,” adds Mr Woodward.

“Visiting pets must be kept on a leash when in the public areas, and will only be able to join their owners in ‘doggie designated’ parts of the hotel.”

For every pet visitor, the hotel will make a donation to a local dog sanctuary.

“Pip, one of the dogs that inspired this programme, was rescued from a terrible fate and he now loves the luxury at the Corinthia Palace,” says Mr Woodward.

“We want to help other homeless dogs to find happiness and safety, so we’re proud to be working with dog sanctuaries in Malta.”
