The first session of a two-week PhD summer school on Integrated Product Development (IPD) was recently held in Malta.
The summer school is aimed at researchers interested in understanding and researching the inter-relationships between design, manufacturing and business issues, and complex aspects involved in the life cycle of products and services.
The session was attended by 12 participants from nine countries, including PhD candidates from Daimler AG and PSA Peugeot Citroën. The participants familiarised themselves with the research work taking place at the Concurrent Engineering Research Unit of the University’s Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. They also attended lectures related to the scientific principles of an IPD approach.
The summer school was organised by the University’s Prof. Jonathan Borg and Prof. Sandor Vajna of Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany. It is a spin-off from Prof. Borg’s sabbatical period.
The second session will take place in Magdeburg in September.
