The 10th Havana Club International Cocktail Grand Prix is taking place next month.

This year’s contestants will be competing to create a new Cuban cocktail to rival traditional favourites such as the Mojito and Daiquiri.

The Maltese contestant representing Malta in Havana, Cuba, is Theo Antonelli, who has years of experience in the hospitality industry and is employed at the Radisson Blu Resort, St Julian’s.

He is a member of the Maltese Bartenders Guild, a network of professionals dedicated to the continued refinement of their craft.

Mr Antonelli will fly to Havana in June for a five-day trip, which will culminate with the final night.

The finalists will have the opportunity to meet renowned rum experts, including Havana Club’s maestro ronero Asbel Morales, spirits historians Jared Brown and Anistatia Miller, pioneering mixologist Tony Conigliaro and leading spirits writer Dave Broom.

All will be on hand to share their knowledge of Cuban culture, cocktails and flavours, rum production and cantinero bartending techniques and styles.

Havana Club rum is imported locally by Farsons Beverage Imports Co. Ltd.
