Three students from St Martin’s College Sixth Form, Hanien Alousi (second from left), Miriana Curmi and William Pettit, recently won a debating competition held at the end of a three-day debating academy organised by the English-Speaking Union of Malta. At the competition, the students successfully opposed the motion: Democracy is the best form of government. Teams of students from various sixth forms took part in the academy, which consisted of lectures, workshops and other activities to explore and develop the participants’ debating skills. The competition winners are seen flanked by ESU Malta director of education Yvette Micallef (left) and their English lecturer Rowena Farrugia.
