Police this morning arrested a German woman after she turned up outside the Żabbar house of her former partner, with a German television crew, to see their three-year-old son.

The woman, Petra Nemet, had abducted the child last year when she took him to Germany and then Poland without the permission of the father Nico Leonhardt, who is also German.

The father had initiated abduction proceedings according to the Hague Convention and a Polish court ordered that the child be returned to Malta.

Ms Nemet and Mr Leonhardt lived together in Malta when their son was born. The Maltese courts have granted Mr Leonhardt care and custody.

This morning police arrested Ms Nemet over claims that she harassed Mr Leonhardt and his Maltese partner. Police sources said she was released a few hours later but they will continue their investigations into the matter.
