Nationalist Party deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami this afternoon called for the removal of Cyrus Engerer from government consultant in the Home Affairs and Civil Liberties ministries, as well as from chairman of the LGBT Consultative Council.

Mr Engerer has been given a two-year suspended jail term for distributing porn.

Addressing a news conference outside the Labour Party headquarters, Dr Fenech Adami said that what happened yesterday during the Labour Party’s activity was a travesty of reality where what was wrong was portrayed to be right what is right was portrayed to be wrong.

Reiterating that Mr Engerer was a convicted criminal, Dr Fenech Adami said Prime Minister Joseph Muscat yesterday placed Mr Engerer a pedestal and presented him as a hero.

Spokeswoman on Civil Liberties Claudette Buttigeg gave a timeline of how things happened.

She pointed out that the case started being investigated in 2009 after the victim filed a report.

Both Ms Buttigieg and Dr Fenech Adami used this point to argue that the PL’s charge that this case was somehow politically motivated was baseless, seeing as this was driven by the victim who had a right to file a report.

Ms Buttigieg said that the case revolved around the fact that Mr Engerer had taken images from his former partner’s computer which he then used to discredit him.

She reiterated the position of PN leader Simon Busuttil that this act in this particular case was intrinsically homophobic since Mr Engerer used the images to damage his former partner in a way that a so called champion of LGBT rights should know damaged gay people.

When asked about the fact that such cases have also taken place among heterosexual couples, she insisted that Mr Engerer should know how damaging these sort of things were to gay people.
