The Cyrus Engerer conviction case shows Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s lack of political judgement, according to Opposition leader Simon Busuttil.

Speaking ahead of an interview with The Sunday Times of Malta, Dr Busuttil said Dr Muscat should never have accepted Mr Engerer on his European Parliament candidates’ list.

“The Prime Minister always realises his mistake too late in the day. The Prime Minister’s champion for gay rights has been found guilty of a crime which by its very nature is homophobic.”

Mr Engerer has withdrawn from the European Parliament elections after he was handed a suspended jail term by a court yesterday. An appeals court found him guilty of computer misuse and distributing compromising pictures of a former partner.
