General Soft Drinks extracts 40 per cent of the water it needs to produce its beverages free of charge from public freshwater resources.
Announcing an investment of approximately €575,000 by the Coca-Cola Foundation in water conservation measures in Gozo at a press conference yesterday, company COO Maria Micallef was asked by Times of Malta how this compares with the amount of public freshwater resources the company takes free of charge.
Ms Micallef said the amount of water to be saved would be equivalent to approximately a quarter of what General Soft Drinks extracts from the public aquifer in Malta.
She said the amount of fresh water extracted free of charge by the company totals approximately 0.3 per cent of the total amount of water taken from the aquifer.
While promoting the project, Ms Micallef said: “We all share the same vision – to be as friendly and generous to nature as it is to us. This project proves the vision of Coca Cola to promote water stewardship.”
