Former Nationalist Party general secretary Paul Borg Olivier said yesterday he would produce in court a list of all the promotions and transfers done by the Labour government.

He was testifying in a libel suit instituted by Civil Liberties Minister Helena Dalli, who complained that about 20,000 leaflets sent out by the PN, blatantly misinterpreted her comments warning that transfers would take place if Labour was elected.

The leaflets were distributed in December 2012 during the electoral campaign.

Labour deputy leader Toni Abela, representing Dr Dalli, asked Dr Borg Olivier to exhibit all anonymous leaflets issued by the PN.

Dr Borg Olivier reacted by saying he would submit a list of all the transfers that occurred since Labour came to power last year.

Dr Abela said the PN had tried to hide the fact that it had sent the leaflets but later had been forced to admit it did after a press conference during which a journalist from the Labour Party TV station asked about them.

Dr Borg Olivier said the leaflet was based on what Dr Dalli had said during a press conference and on her track record because she had been found guilty of political discrimination against Angela Callus during the Sant administration.

Nationalist MP Marthese Portelli, who was president of the PN executive at the time, said she was asked by a journalist about the leaflets but did not know whether they had been sent by the party.

She did not form part of the electoral campaign team but, after the press conference, she had enquired about the matter and phoned the journalist to confirm that the leaflet had in fact been sent by the Nationalist Party. The case continues.
