Students and teachers from Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School, Naxxar, recently visited Aveiro, Portugal, for a meeting of partners from schools from eight countries involved in the Comenius project Harmony for Earth, Life and People (Help).

The project’s main aim is to foster a positive attitude towards conservation and appreciation of the environment as part of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. The nine schools shared ideas regarding environmental actions that could be adopted by each school in this regard.

During the meeting, Maltese students Ilaria Micallef and Mariel Bartolo took part in a workshop entitled ‘The world is like a puzzle’, which involved discussions about each country’s local environmental problems and the representation of all the problems in a large jigsaw puzzle.

Meanwhile, school head Mary Attard, P.E. teacher Ms L. Buttigieg and the heads of the other schools, presented to one another the contributions, mini-projects and other outcomes related to environment sustainability developed by their schools through the project.

The two-year project ends with a final meeting in Sardinia next month. The project was supported by funding by the European Union Programmes Agency (EUPA) under the Lifelong Learning Programme. The local school’s visit to Portugal was also partly financed by APS Bank.
